Real Name: Aeronwy Erin Thomas {PB: Christina Hendricks}
Codename: Sarabi
Age: 27
Unit & Position: Pridelands; intelligence manager, occasional runner
Backstory: Aeronwy Thomas was born without fully developed vocal cords. A bitter disappointment to her father, a career diplomat, she was left to be raised by her grandparents in Cardiff, Wales, where she quickly fell in with a bad element—most notably her first love, a loose cannon of a young man named Aidan. Although he was hardly good to her, he didn’t mind her defect the way her father did, and that made her entirely devoted to him. For two wonderful years, she clung to his side, first as a hanger-on but slowly also as a delivery girl for his incredibly small ring of drug runners.
It all worked just fine until age sixteen brought her in contact with one of Aidan’s other girls—while Aidan was kissing her. A few dazed hours later found her in police custody for stabbing the pair of them with a broken bottle. It was only a matter of the news reaching her father, who disowned her instantaneously. She spent two years in a young offender's institution before being released to the streets. After a few months of struggling, she met a lovely young lady named Wren who took her in on the condition she work for her keep. It was Wren who introduced her both to the life of working as an exotic dancer and, once she’d proven herself and earned the Madam’s trust, taking side jobs for MI5.
Dancing is hardly a life-long plan, and after nearly a decade, Aeronwy found that it was much less easy to keep up with that end of the work at closer to 30 than it had been at closer to 20. It was time to make a move, and with so much experience under her belt, she made a bit for more legitimate participation at MI5. That British agency, however, is hardly in the game of advancing their mercenaries out of the field and into real, proper work. Shopping for a better job brought her in touch with a certain Willem Proffitt, and the rest is history.
Personality: Aeronwy spent her earliest life being told she wasn’t good enough, that she was a defective disappointment and not worthy of her family’s affection. It was much easier to harden herself against the world than allow herself to be snapped entirely in half. Falling in with Aidan and his gang reaffirmed this hardness, that the only way to survive was to keep everyone at a distance and never give heed to real emotions.
As a consequence, she often comes off as completely cold and dispassionate. There’s good strong Welsh dissociation in her demeanour. Smiles are rare and taciturn is the usual mode of communication. Although she’s not without a certain sense of empathy, she almost never allows herself to act on it.
Some part of Aeronwy understands that the way she was raised wasn’t appropriate, that her life thus far has been on a bad and ugly path. That part of her is what likes taking in stray cats, that dreams vaguely of going into early elementary school teaching, that wants to use this new ‘desk job’ as a chance to transition into supposedly ‘normal’ life.
Most of her, however, knows that this is her ‘normal,’ and that she’ll never get out. More than anything, Aeronwy is a resigned human being, with absolutely no faith in human adaptability and the capacity for change.
Reason for joining the Grimm Mercenaries?: She’s a fairly new recruit to the Prideland Unit, pulled in in the last few months while Kiara was suspended. While looking at her potential prospects in the world outside of MI5, she found out just enough about Grimm to have her interest piqued. Meeting ‘Scar’ solidified her belief that this would be a fantastic career move. {Thread somewhere on LJ
